More than a year after the completion of its construction , the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) building will finally be inaugurated on Jan 5 at 11 am by Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav through video conferencing.

Officials of the Northeast Frontier Railways informed that the Railway Minister will not be coming to Dimapur but will inaugurate it through Video conferencing from Katihar, Bihar, where he will be simultaneously inaugurating the Railway line Electrification of the Barauni-Katihar-Guwahati section.

Divisional Railway Manager of Northeast Railway Frontiers, Lumding SS Narayanan arrived in Dimapur Railway Station today in connection with the preparatory work for the inauguration of the PRS and also to review the ongoing rectification works at the Railway station and for the construction of a new Development Office building.

Dimapur Railway Station today wore a sparkling look as Railway officials and staff hurriedly went on a cleaning spree in anticipation of the inspection round from the DRM. Even the stall vendors were seen in a new avatar, all looking tip-top in their uniforms along with their name tags.

And, perhaps for the first time, three persons were booked and fined after the DRM found them urinating outside the Railway station embankments during the inspection. Two of the defaulters (non-locals) were kept in the lock-up and fined Rs 100/- each.

Citing a hectic timetable, the DRM did not interact with the media and instead passed on the responsibility for the briefing to senior DCM Sudhir Kumar who informed that Dimapur Railway Station has already found its way in the A Class category. Other development activities in the offing will be construction of ATM in circulating areas of the station, opening of a Food Plaza and installing an integrated security system, he said.

He further stated that the Railway authority has contacted certain NGOs for the construction of urinals in the circulating areas.
Responding to a query on why the construction of waiting shed for platform No 3 was shelved despite assurances by previous DRMs, he blamed it on security reasons and the space being too narrow.
