the current state of leadership and the dilema the public face in our region has been an issue of much debate in recent times. we do need leaders who can lead us in the right direction and not become puppets in the hands of others. but a lot of issues pertaining to the whole process, the working and dynamics of the elections needs a lot of debate as
here i want to raise an issue. in my view the issue that is hurting the the whole democratic syatem in our region is the functioning of our FREEDOM FIGHTERS. with due respect to the brothers and sisters fighting for the cause, i wish to say that they have been largely responsible for the failing structure. it is not unknown that the whole process of elections is dictated by them. whom to vote, which candidate to support for the next election and everything is determined by their influence. now my question is... why do they not give a chance to the public to judge by themselves? the people in our region are well aware of how democracy is supposed to work. we cannot say, today, that the people are not aware of this fact.
i may sound utopian but how i wish the FREEDOM FIGHTERS support the democratic elections and be role models for others. if they could look into the proper functioning of govt offices in the region, if they could look into the problems like corruption and not be a part (or the Reason) of it, if they could make the govt schools function properly.. i think this is quite possible!! it is just the narrow outlook that is being the hindrance to this. now that cease fire is on, why not they look after the health of our society? this will give a better image in the society for them. with this the poor villagers would not think twice before they shell out tax for them. after all they would use it for the betterment of society and not build a big house or come back to the village in a bike or car. maybe these groups could initiate the functioning of an ambulance in the smaller towns, ensure the proper distribution of schemes, function like an NGO and look at environmental management in the region.... if we think about the options, they are numerous! why not elect the leaders in the army (freedom fighters) through democratic process rather than the way it is now. i mean i have a problem with the authority because, it appears to me like crude dictatorship!!
i do not mean that democracy functions ideally in India or anywhere in the world but i we can make small efforts, it can go a long way in making our society better. as the old Chinese saying goes, " a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step."
i m very much open to discussion on this and your views will be highly valuable.

this is a very interesting topic that you have started here adahrii. i enjoyed reading your writing here and will be contributing my thoughts here too....hopefully the other members will join in too... with time....
Looking into the underground situation now in Nagaland... its more like biting the hands that feeds them. They demands , we pay. They order, we follow. If anyone refuses to their dictation... we all know what happens next... its more like a communist country... i don't see any democracy as of now... as you have mentioned somewhere up there about cars and bikes... i have seen a lot of them owing more than 2 vehicles... i wonder how much their salary is... but i have also seen a lot of Naga officers without a single vehicle...hmmmm more next time... a phone call here...

i think a strong, educated, dynamic and far-sighted leadership is the key.. My bro, (I feel) it all depends on you and me to change it, in our small little ways... as long as a person is not in the higher part of social heirarchy, people dont listen ( who listens to a normall common man? and who does not listen to an officer... you know what i mean.. ) may be when i become someone bigger in life i will do more... and i hope that day, it wont too late...
